Stealing St. Nicholas: The Original Texts

As I discuss in Stealing Saint Nick, there are several surviving accounts of the theft of St. Nicholas's corpse from Myra. Some of them can be found online at the St. Nicholas Center site. Two important ones, however -- the account of John the Archdeacon and the narrative of the Anonymous Monk of Lido -- had not previously been translated into English. Those accounts, as well as a slightly later retelling by Orderic Vitalis (closely based on John the Archdeacon's) are downloadable below, so interested readers can get a sense of the way mediaeval chroniclers present these stories.
